Do you remember the first tweet on March 21, 2006? No, and that's normal. Because another event, 6 days later, completely overshadowed the beginnings of the 140-character social network: the birth of the Rock on Wall brand. Indeed, it was on March 27, 2006, that the company was registered with the Annecy commercial register by a music and vinyl record enthusiast.
Decoration reservoir
At its core, a brilliant idea: to draw from the immense reservoir of record sleeves to create personal and original decor, and thus provide the ideal support for this impulse, namely a simple, innovative, affordable, and "made in France" frame. This is how the first Rock on Wall frames appeared in July 2006 at Zic & Bul, Boogie Time, and Plan B. This marked the beginning of a great adventure that allows us, 10 years later, to lead the strong return of the vinyl record.
Setting things ablaze
Independent record stores, in France and Europe, and visitors to the website, launched in November 2006, quickly became fond of the product, but it was a great collector of vinyl records, in the person of Philippe Manoeuvre, who set things ablaze in 2007: completely captivated by the concept, he wrote a glowing editorial in Rock & Folk and opened the doors of "the cultural agitator" to it. Sales climbed to 10,000 units in 2009.
New menu
Early 2010, new owner, new menu, new logo. Still driven by a teenage passion for music and its noblest medium, Rock on Wall's new one-man band wanted to go even further and secured distribution contracts in Germany, England, and the Benelux during a memorable exhibition at the Tempelhof in Berlin, which left him literally speechless. The website was relooked, and diversification began with the creation of a range of t-shirts with unequivocal slogans: VINYL'S NOT DEAD, SYMPATHY FOR THE VINYL, or VINYL VIDI VICI. In 2011, the first Record Store Day was a huge success.
Format war
Nevertheless, not everything is rosy as the music market continues its inexorable descent into hell, battered by downloads and streaming. At the end of 2012, this format war claimed a major victim in the person of the Virgin network and its 26 stores. This was a setback, and a brief period of hardship in a context of record store layoffs and reduced shelves. It was time for Rock on Wall to take action again.
Internet pillage
And the response began in early 2014 with the launch of a range of maintenance products, quickly followed by beautiful sleeves, then in 2015 by exclusive slipmats and old-fashioned flight cases! Simultaneously, record companies were pressing records at full speed and generalizing the mp3 download voucher with every vinyl. Turntable manufacturers innovated again, and specific furniture reappeared in all good music sections. At the end of 2015, we launched the new website, which focuses on used records: sales are booming!
To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Rock on Wall is organizing a contest with €500 in gift vouchers to be won! Try your luck!
Rock on Wall is 10 years old, thank you for your trust.
